Hydrocele

Hydrocele

What is HYDROCELE?

A hydrocele is a condition where fluid accumulates in the sac surrounding a testicle, leading to swelling in the scrotum. Here’s a detailed overview:
Types of Hydrocele

  1. Communicating Hydrocele: Fluid flows between the abdomen and the scrotum due to an open connection.
  2. Non-Communicating Hydrocele: Fluid remains trapped in the sac without any connection to the abdomen.

Causes

  • In Infants: During fetal development, a sac around the testicle usually closes and absorbs fluid before birth. If this process doesn’t occur, a hydrocele may form.
  • In Adults: It can result from injury, inflammation, or infections in the scrotum or testicles.

Symptoms

  • Painless swelling of one or both testicles.
  • A feeling of heaviness in the scrotum.
  • In some cases, discomfort due to the size of the swelling.

Complications

Hydroceles are generally harmless but can sometimes be associated with underlying conditions like infections or hernia or testicular cancer
